OPEN STUDIOS AND THE IRS PLAY SWEET MUSIC
Open Studios is now tax-exempt nonprofit, helping communities build and operate community-based recording studios that provide free recording services for residents of the communities and surrounding areas.
Open Studios announced, today, that communities around the country, and around the world, are now able to establish community-based recording studios which provide residents with free recording services. With the kind assistance of the United States Internal Revenue Service, Open Studios is officially recognized as a charitable organization.
Tom Poe, Director of Open Studios, said, "Our focus is on making recording services available to everyone. There's a world of talent, but they all need the opportunity to show off that talent. That's where we step in."
This week marks the launch of Open Studios' drive to place community-based recording studios in every community, large or small, across the country, and provide the technical support they need to be successful. Like the U.S. Marines, they're looking for a few enthusiastic volunteers from each community to coordinate the projects.
"Once a community-based recording studio is in place," said Poe, "the sky's the limit, for music appreciation programs, fund-raising tools, marketing campaigns, senior citizen programs, and more."
The mission of Open Studios is to replenish the Public Domain. "We think we have the right model in place to do just that." he said.
