TECHNICAL ADVISORY FROM ST. BERNARD SOFTWARE

St. Bernard Software Technical Advisory: CodeRed.F Worm Update

SAN DIEGO -- March 13, 2003 -- St. Bernard Software Inc. advises users of its UpdateEXPERT patch management and remediation solution to verify that they have installed Microsofts MS01-033 patch (first added to UpdateEXPERT in June 2001) to avoid being affected by the new CodeRed.F worm.

Organizations that installed patches using UpdateEXPERT to protect their networks against the original Code Red worm and its subsequent variants will be protected against the latest threat that CodeRed.F presents.

St. Bernard also advises companies running Microsoft Internet Information Server (IIS) to immediately install the MS01-044 cumulative patch for IIS to eliminate any vulnerability to the CodeRed.F worm, which began spreading Tuesday, March 11, 2003. The MS01-044 cumulative patch includes the four patches released to date and was added to UpdateEXPERT in August, 2001.

In order to avoid future worm and virus attacks, St. Bernard recommends that organizations keep up to date with all Microsoft patches. The use of intelligent third-party software solutions like St. Bernards UpdateEXPERT can perform this critical function easily and cost-effectively without draining IT staff resources.

About CodeRed.F
CodeRed.F is a potentially dangerous variant of the original Code Red worm, which began infecting more than 350,000 Web servers in July 2001. Like the original Code Red worm, CodeRed.F infects unprotected Microsoft IIS 4.0 and 5.0 Web servers. However, unlike the original worm that was unable to spread past 2002, CodeRed.F has been modified to have no expiration date. Also, unlike the original Code Red worm, CodeRed.F was designed to allow hackers to gain full control of an infected Web server.
