The author, Richard Gough joined the Royal Navy in 1975 at the age of sixteen to escape the boredom of living in Falmouth, Cornwall. One of six children he was the first of his family to join the navy. In a career spanning seventeen years Richard travelled the world serving on a total of six Royal Navy warships. His service career led him to see combat in the Falklands conflict in 1982 as well as protecting British shipping from the Iran and Iraq Tanker wars in the Persian Gulf.
An avid photographer, Richard kept a visual diary throughout his naval service and captured unique events and places not normally witnessed by civilians. In 1991 Richard left the Royal Navy and took up a new and successful career in computer management. Still a keen photography and traveller RichardÂs work and stories of his Royal Navy career have been viewed by thousands of visitors to his website at rgough.com which was the inspiration behind this, his first book. Richard lives in the East End of London with his partner Iain and their dog Osmosis.
