Cedar Rapids, IA---Cedar Brewing Company's annual release of their Scottish Ale, Tilted Kilt starts today kicking off the Spring Celtic Celebration of St. Patrick's Weekend. First introduced in March of 1999; Brew Master Mike Snyder's Tilted Kilt Scottish style ale contains about 20% German Munich malt, is a copper colored ale with chocolate and caramel body with a lingering slightly sweet finish. This popular ale contains approximately 4.4% alcohol by weight.

History
The history of brewing in Scotland stretches back even further than the ancient Sumerians that renowned beer expert, Michael Jackson, wrote so much about the work of Dr. Solomon Katz, an archaeologist at the University of Pennsylvania who interpreted stone tablets dating from 3,400 B.C. -- the tablets turned out to be a recipe for brewing beer. Supposedly, the ancient Scottish Highlands Picts were making ale in Scotland back around 6,500 B.C. and they were using grist of barley and heather well before the Romans invaded in 43 A.D.

Today, Scottish style ales have a smoothness about them that makes their malty flavor profiles unique and as if plaid kilts and bagpipes weren't enough to establish Scotland's claim to a distinctive identity of its own, their traditional ale styles are worlds away from the hoppy ales of neighboring England. Make no mistake; Scottish Ale has a tradition of having a big bold taste with a wee heavy style!
