Miami River's Hidden Treasure: Maritime Artist James A. Flood

Living in relative obscurity, internationally renowned artist paints historical maritime art at his home by the Miami River. Few artists have dedicated their lives so religiously as has Jim Flood.

Few people traveling over the 27th Avenue bridge in Miamis third world territory realize that the noise made by their car tires going over the bridge surreptitiously blends into the background of the small frame home of maritime artist Jim Flood, where year after year he sketches, paints and builds his way into an artful immortality. He is a master at realism, and the ships he has painted range from 17th century galleons and World War battleships to modern ocean liners. Images of over 100 of his paintings can be seen now on his website: www.jamesaflood.com, along with detailed photographs of some of his favorite made-from-scratch ship models. Prints, signed by the artist, are available for purchase in those interested in owning a piece of history.
