A Boys Letter to the President
WASHINGTON, DC: Commentators such as Gordon Liddy and Rush Limbaugh incite blood lust for a war on Iraq. The question of who is the true patriot and who is the traitor, unresolved from Vietnam, once again troubles America. To address the reasons for war, Capturelife Press has posted A Boys Letter to the President" in the Essays section of www.NotYetAtEase.com. Permission for electronic redistribution in toto is granted.
Jimmy Brown, age 10, writes to the President for help to understand why the US should fight Iraq. He asks why his Mom, an MP in the reserves who was called up, has to die among the thousands of female soldiers who perish in the war.
I wrote this letter to give us a chance to re-think the issues," says Dr. David Chananie, an expert on the Vietnam War, before we jump off a cliff in the night. Our politicians should have learned the lessons from the Vietnam War. Too many parallels today show they havent." His most recent book is Not Yet At Ease: Photographs of Americas Continuing Engagement With the Vietnam War. Our soldiers deserve better from we the people. They deserve to know America understands fully and concurs fully with why they are being sent to be maimed and to die. They should know it is the consensus of their fellow citizens who send them, and not merely a muddle of messianic madmen in the White House."
In his letter, Jimmy Brown asks questions such as:
If it's to destroy weapons of mass destruction, what about the North Koreans?
Why is going to war our first choice before trying other things, such as inciting a war between Iraq and Iran, or sending in hit teams?
Why should Americans die so Iraqis may be free? Why dont Iraqis liberate themselves like we did from King George?
