Skin care products developed by two cancer researchers will be launched by Niadyne, Inc. at the 61st Annual Academy of Dermatology Meeting

Topicals containing a patented compound for the treatment and prevention of photodamge will be launched by two cancer center researchers at the 61st Annual Academy of Dermatology Meeting.

Tucson, AZ (March 18, 2003) -- Niadyne, Inc., a biopharmaceutical company founded by Drs. Elaine and Myron Jacobson, two researchers at the Arizona Cancer Center, will introduce their patented NIA 24/7 products at the 61st Annual Academy of Dermatology meeting in San Francisco (March 21-26, 2003). The NIA 24/7 products contain Pro-NAD, a compound that delivers niacin into the skin and has the potential to prevent the formation of skin cancer.

Research has long demonstrated the important role that the active form of niacin has in its ability to potentially prevent the formation of skin cancer and the progression of skin lesions that frequently present before skin cancer occurs. However, research also demonstrated that niacin or niacinamide could not be effectively delivered to skin cells.

The Jacobsons extensive research led to the identification of a molecule that successfully addressed this delivery problem. The molecule, Nia-114, trademarked by the Jacobsons as Pro-NAD, allows niacin to be effectively delivered to the skin cells on a 24/7 basis. The research demonstrating the reparative properties of niacin resulted in the National Cancer Institute awarding its NCI RAPID Award to the University of Arizona, via the Jacobsons, who are Pharmacy Professors at the University.

Physicians who participated in the trials reported noticeable improvements in the tone and texture of the patients skin. When asked if the NIA 24/7 products are considered a treatment or wellness product, Dr. Jacobson replied, They are ultimately a treatment product; however, for someone with perfect skin, the NIA 24/7 products can also be considered a preventative in that they help resist photodamage and delay the onset of certain kinds of photodamage."

Dr. Elaine Jacobson explains the difference between NIA 24/7 and other products on the market that target photodamage and fine wrinkling. There are distinct differences between Niadynes NIA 24/7 topicals and other products that repair damaged tissue, such as Retin-A and alpha hydroxy acids. Niadynes NIA 24/7 products not only repair the tissue, they also prepare your skin to resist further damage by strengthening the skin barrier. Pro-NAD strengthens the upper layer of the skin by making it more intact thereby creating a stronger skin barrier. Also, the erythema, photosensitivity and thinning of the upper layer of skin, common side effects of Retin-A or alpha hydroxy acids, is virtually non-existent with products containing Pro-NAD because of its specific properties."

Dermatologists involved in the previous two studies are reporting that, in addition to addressing photodamage, they have also noticed visible improvements in the skin tone and texture, an increase in skin firmness, a reduction in fine wrinkling, and a reduction of skin blood vessels in those patients using the NIA 24/7 Pro-NAD products.

The Jacobsons, recognized worldwide as experts on niacin derivatives as they relate to enhancing DNA repair of cells damaged by sunlight and aging, are currently conducting a third study on how NIA 24/7 repairs early stage photodamage.
