Gibraltar Software, Inc. Announces SME Patch Management Packages- Affordable Price with Fortune 500 Security Levels

Gibraltar Software, Inc. announces patch management for multiple OS networks in new bundled packages for small/medium enterprises. Now SME can afford the same multi-platform, industrial strength patch management available to larger enterprises with the Everguard(tm) System.

SUNNYVALE, Calif.-March 19, 2003--Gibraltar Software, Inc. announces the release of their patch management solution, the Everguard System, in an affordable bundled package for Small/Medium Enterprises (SME) that provides the same, fully featured, industrial strength automated patch management for multi-platform networks that has been available only to larger enterprises in the past.

With bundled packages starting at just $2995, SME can now afford to take advantage of the same advanced privacy protection and patch deployment capabilities as large enterprise class customers.

Security can be even more important for a small or mid-level enterprise than for a large one," said security expert Graham Hine, founder and CEO of Gibraltar Software, Inc. True, there are fewer dollars at stake but there is also less margin for financial error, and the costs of a single security breach can run into the tens of thousands of dollars... not to mention the damage it can do to a companys reputation."

Avi Rubin, technical director of the Information Security Institute at Johns Hopkins, agrees. Image is everything," he says. Someone can steal $500,000, but the bad PR could make you lose $3 million in business."
The widely publicized hack of more than five million Visa and MasterCard account numbers and expiration dates in February from Data Processors International (DPI) has served as a wake-up call for many small to medium level enterprises. Security analysts agree that hackers trolling for weak spots in a network may often prey on small to mid-level companies, which often have valuable data to exploit but lack the resources to purchase the beefed-up security systems that Fortune 500 companies can afford.
Gibraltar Softwares SME Packages make an enterprise level patch management solution affordable for smaller networks. A 100 node multi-platform network can be protected for under $3,000 but still get the same services that a larger enterprise would receive. Bundled packages include: software licensing, node licensing, appliance maintenance, and 24/7 support. Software arrives pre-loaded on a dedicated purpose-built hardened appliance for plug and play installation.

Smaller networks still require time and resources to stay securely patched and up-to-date," says Mark Allen, Gibraltar Softwares CTO. Allen cites the study performed by services firm Activis: for a company with an infrastructure of only eight firewalls and nine servers, the IT manager would have had to make 1,315 updates in a nine month period. This is equivalent to five updates per working day.

Everguard 2.0 allows system administrators to track unpatched software, find the appropriate patches, and deploy them remotely and automatically. The system also provides features such as comprehensive reporting tools, notification services, a risk-rated priority to patches, and the ability to manage patches across multiple operating systems and platforms.

With Everguard 2.0, system administrators can run one tool to keep a mid-size network of Solaris, Windows, and Linux machines completely patched and up-to-date in an hour or less per week.

Gibraltar's Everguard 2.0 software is immediately available. A walk-through with screenshots may be viewed at http://www.gibraltarsoft.com/inside/demo.html. Potential customers may also evaluate Everguard 2.0 through an on-site demonstration, which allows customers to test Everguard 2.0 against five client systems for a one month period.
