3.17.03 Progeny launches Linux Platform Manager - a web-based tool that helps you create, test, and update your custom Linux distribution.

Washington, DC - March 17, 2003. Progeny, the Linux Platform Company, today introduced Linux Platform Manager, a web-based tool that simplifies the time-consuming and expensive process of creating, testing, and maintaining a custom Linux distribution. Progenys Chairman and Chief Technology Officer, Ian Murdock, is speaking today in Washington, at the conference Open Standard/Open Source for National and Local eGovernment Programs in the U.S. and EU

Linux Platform Manager is a key element of Progenys Platform Services," said Garth Dickey, Progenys CEO. With direct access to Platform Services componentized Linux, Linux Platform Manager subscribers can create Linux platforms for server appliances and retail point-of-sale systems, as well as specialized Linux distributions and custom desktop deployments."

According to Murdock, Building customized Linux platforms often requires dedicated staff to maintain the underlying Linux platform, in addition to developing and integrating the technology for the final product. This incurs high costs in resources and in lost focus on core competencies."

Progenys Platform Services streamlines the onerous process of managing a custom Linux distribution, by providing a componentized, highly customizable Linux platform based on industry standards and best practices. Both open source and commercial components are available in Platform Services, serving small footprint to enterprise-sized distributions.

The web-based Linux Platform Manager lets users assemble desired features, apply fully tested security patches and other important updates as the underlying components evolve, and retain control over the feature set and timetable. Features include security patch management facilities, version-control tools, and workflow for development teams, auditing facilities, and delivery via APT repositories.

Progenys Professional Services group can tailor the Linux platform to the customers specifications, ensuring optimal performance and integration. Progenys experts can help with specialized platform migration, custom component integration, platform creation, and maintenance.
