Why would a man go to great lengths to find his daughter, and then try to murder her? And who was the dead woman? What did she say moments before she died? Around those questions spins a psychological suspense thriller, mixing amnesia, insomnia, exotic drugs, a unique demolitions organization and the China Project.

About the Book

The sheriff sees no evidence of an explosion, but finds a stunning young woman, wandering dazed in rural Virginia. The gash on her forehead has left her with amnesia. A doctor detects odd chemicals in her blood -- residue of a drug he has never run across. A tycoon claims Renate as his 22-year-old love child, revealing that, after her mother died she lived in Germany with her aunt, until she suddenly died. And now he is Renate's only living relative. He tells her he fears she was abducted when she returned to the States, and that this kidnapping is linked directly to her amnesia.

In Los Angeles, Hector Garcia's architectural practice is sabotaged, his reputation shattered. An odd coincidence brings Hector and Renate together, but while their lives merge, so do their nightmares, until a car explodes, not killing Renate, but restoring her memory, unlocking the ultimate nightmare.

Why would a man go to great lengths to find his daughter, and then try to murder her? And who was the dead woman? What did she say moments before she died? Around those questions spins a psychological suspense thriller, mixing amnesia, insomnia, exotic drugs, a unique demolitions organization and the China Project.

About the Author

A top honors graduate of the University of Southern California School of Architecture, Hutner co-founded a major Los Angeles architectural firm, serving as its CEO for fifteen years. His interests include travel, photography, kayaking, high-altitude mountain hiking, golf, teaching architecture, political and environmental activism and classical piano. His career includes more than a decade of forensic architecture.

Hutner has contributed extensively to local newspapers and professional publications, and has authored numerous political campaign speeches. He is married to Norma Hutner, recently elected supervisor in Fluvanna County. Hutner is an avid reader -- a student of the craft of writing and creator of two novels prior to Dead Woman's Voice.

Although Hutner thoroughly enjoys escaping into the works of Grisham, Baldacci, Sue Grafton and Robert B. Parker, he claims to be influenced primarily by James M. Cain, Dashiell Hammett, Raymond Chandler, early Frederick Forsyth, early Robert Ludlum and John Le Carré. However, he readily admits that Dead Woman's Voice bears little resemblance to any of the cited authors' novels, except perhaps in complexity. Hutner loves complexity; he thrives on it, asserting that "human life is unimaginable without the entanglements of ever conflicting needs and shifting aspirations."
