EMPLOYERS DO SUPPORT BREASTFEEDING IN THE WORKPLACE...SURVEY

One fifth of Australian women say they currently breastfeed their baby at work however 20.3% are not comfortable feeding their child at work according to a survey by Goss Cosmetics

21.2% of Australian women say they currently breastfeed their baby at work and their employers completely support their rights to do according to a survey of over 500 women by Goss Cosmetics, Australias own cosmetic firm and rapidly becoming the voice of women in this country.

The survey however revealed that 20.3% of women are not comfortable breastfeeding their child in the workplace and make alternative arrangements in order to accommodate their childs needs.

Ms Fiona Sharkie of Goss Cosmetics says it was very interesting to note that 9% of women surveyed indicated that breastfeeding a baby should only be done at home.

Only 2.5% said they continue to breastfeed their baby at work but have had trouble with their employer or co-workers as a result.

Women who continue to breastfeed after returning to work, miss less time because of baby-related illnesses and have shorter absences when they do miss work. They have higher morale and tend to return to work earlier from maternity leave.

These issues should be discussed before women take their maternity leave. Employers who are eager to retain and accommodate their valuable employees will be flexible and assist in making breastfeeding at work possible."
