FUTURES Magazine Contest Winners

Writers competed to write the end to a scene or to write the beginning to a chapter and were judged by the authors of the novels used, Kit Sloane and Libby Hellmann.

In 2002 Futures Mysterious Anthology had two contests that teach! Writers were asked to write
the beginning and ending to passages taken from mystery novels. For one, FUTURES asked
entrants to write the start to a chapter from Libby Hellmanns AN EYE FOR MURDER. The
contests required competitors to wrap up a chapter from BAD ACTORS by Kit Sloane.

Congratulations to Karen Sideris for winning the Beginnings contest. According to Libby
Hellmann, "Her details added a whole new dimension to the setting. I wish Id thought of them
myself! They really meshed with Ellies character, too. It was an excellent job, and a tough one, I
suspect. Kudos to Karen!"

Del Tinsley walked away with the award for the best Endings entry. Both winning entries and the
original versions by Libby Hellman and Kit Sloane are on the website: http://www.fmam.biz.

Congratulations from FUTURES, Publisher Babs Lakey and the novelists, Libby Hellman and
Kit Sloane.
