Award Winners Write For the MS Society

Bluechrome Publishing Announce Release of Anthology With All Profits To Be Donated To The Bristol MS Society

bluechrome publishing today announce the launch of the "bluechrome 2003 anthology" with all profits destined to be donated to the Bristol Branch of the MS Society.

Anthony Delgrado, Editor in Chief of Portishead based bluechrome said

"We are both pleased and proud that we are able to publish some great new writing and help the MS Society raise much needed funds. The annual bluechrome competition is dedicated to giving new or unpublished writers an opportunity to be read and in helping raise much needed funds for the sufferers of Multiple Sclerosis, we are doubly proud of the inclusion of the winners in our first anthology."

The anthology contains a variety of poems and short stories, and includes poetry from the 2003 bluechrome poetry award winner Ronnie Goodyer, the 2003 award for fiction winner Sam Hayes and the 2003 Young Writers award winner, Thomas Pinnock.

The competition and anthology have already provided a stepping stone for some of the writers featured as Neil Ayres, Shaun Levin and Erik Ryman - have all since been offered contracts by bluechrome for them to release major works, this is in addition to Ronnie Goodyer's recent appointment as bluechrome poetry editor. Delgrado expanded on the subject by saying,

"the fact that so many great writers entered the competition has meant that we were in the fortunate position of being able to discuss ways in which some of them would like to develop their careers. In signing people such as Neil, Shaun, Erik and of course Ronnie we believe that we are developing a stable of writers that are equal to any in the market place. I truly believe that the next few years will see each of them recognised on a far higher level than we currently operate, but am ecstatic that we can provide a platform at this critical stage in their careers".

The bluechrome 2003 anthology is now available, priced at 9.99 and with all profits being donated to the Bristol MS Society. Any support in the promotion or publicising of this book is received with thanks.

About the Bristol MS Society
This year is the 50th anniversary of the founding of the MS Society so this book comes out at a particularly appropriate time.

So what is MS? It has struck about 85,000 people in the country and is the most common disabling disease among young adults affecting not only them but also their families, friends and carers. The disease attacks the central nervous system by destroying myelin, the sheath that protects the nerves in the brain and spinal cord. We still don't know what is the cause and it can be unpredictable. Some people manage to carry on a near normal life for many years - others, can very soon be completely crippled and confined to a wheelchair.

There is no cure yet but the MS Society has over 11 million committed to research and each year awards funding of 2 million to new projects. The Bristol branch has recently raised 5,000 for research and in addition we do a lot of welfare work. We give help especially to those newly diagnosed , we help pay for wheelchairs, give grants for homes to be adapted, for respite holidays and so on. We also organise social events so that people with MS can get together and enjoy each others company.
