THERE IS A REVOLUTION TAKING PLACE RIGHT NOW

Just as independent musicians have changed the face of music, independent authors will revolutionize the collective voice of America and the world.

Although most of the public is not aware of it, it is not a quiet revolution, and will affect tens of millions of people over the next generation. After about three centuries where the books that were published in the US were selected by a rather small number of people, the publishing industry has been thrown wide open.

Until now, a handful of major publishers, perhaps two dozen, dominated the general trade market, with perhaps another hundred or so smaller houses. That was it. If you didn't find a home with one of these, your book would probably never see the light of day.

No more.

Thanks to the "computer age", a great change is taking place. Part of it is called POD, Print On Demand. Modern technology makes it possible to print a single copy of a book without breaking the bank, using sophisticated POD equipment.

Authors who choose to self publish no longer have to print a thousand copies, warehouse them, and hope for a miracle. With POD publishing, books can be printed as orders come in, and a sale of 20 to 50 copies is usually enough to start seeing a profit. Most people have that many relatives and friends.

With these great advances in technology, new voices are emerging at a staggering pace. Just as independent musicians have changed the face of music, independent authors will revolutionize the collective voice of America and the world.

The second part of the revolution comes from independent POD publishing companies such as WideThinker Books. WideThinker Books publishes books for authors, using POD technology.

"The process of publishing a book is daunting for most authors," says WideThinker Books owner Kaya Casper, who recently self published her own novel. "We strive to help you get your book in print, as painlessly as possible."

Now, for a minimal investment, any author can get his or her epiphany in print. Whether that is good or bad remains to be seen, but one thing is certain: the revolution is here.
