World-renowned artist and local resident Frank F.S. Liou presents an original work to each of the celebrity presenters and performers for the 75th Annual Academy Awardsâ.

Liou, is among one of the elite assembly of products selected for inclusion in this years gift baskets for the 75th Academy Awards. Fired at 2300° Fahrenheit with a unique copper sky-blue glaze, each plate is an original piece of art handmade and individually glazed by Liou himself.

A local resident, Liou is only the 2nd Chinese American artist to have been selected for such an honor. His work was discovered when scouts for the Academy of Arts and Sciences saw one of his pieces at the Bowers Museum in Orange County, CA. A limited selection of pieces are available there at the gift shop for purchase.
About the Art
Specializing in the technique of single glaze multiple firing, Frank F.S. Liou creates a porcelain plate that demands reflective thought. His glazing techniques have evolved from a solid academic foundation, consisting of in-depth knowledge of renowned kilns and the specific use of glaze material in imperial kilns of the Sung, Yuan, Ming, and Ching Dynasties. The profusion of color and the fine glaze of Lious art emit a creativity fused with historical depth.
About the Artist
Frank F.S. Liou is from Taichung, Taiwan. After graduating from Taiwans Taipei Institute of Technology, Frank F.S. Liou studied ceramic technology at Kyoto Institute of Technology in Japan. He later received his masters degree in Ceramic Engineering at the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana. Mr. Liou taught Ceramics as an assistant professor at the National Taiwan Academy of Arts, as well as the Union Institute of Technology in Taiwan. He has served as a technical consultant for ceramic companies in Taiwan, China, Africa, and the United States, and has been invited to both Japan and China as an expert consultant directing ceramic research projects. Mr. Lious field of expertise is in pottery and glaze. He has published numerous research papers and continues to travel to Asia to consult and give lectures. Currently, he resides and continues his research in Walnut, California.
