A Helping Hand From Home" Radisson Hotel Plymouth Harbor Serves As Collection Point For Care Package Items For South Shore Troops In Iraqi War. Rentacrate, Waltham donates crates for the effort.

Area residents can lend a hand by aiding the grass roots efforts of two local moms of Marines, Beth Princiotta of Hanson and Linda McMasters of Whitman, who are gathering supplies for the troops with the help of the recently formed a South Shore and Whitman-Hanson support group for military families. Donations Accepted at the Radisson Hotel Plymouth Harbor.

In a time-honored wartime tradition, mothers of troops deployed to the Middle East are rallying around their sons and daughters, mounting a personal relief effort to provide needed supplies.

As McMasters notes, We just want to let our troops know that we care, by sending them a little token of our appreciation."

Donations Accepted at the Radisson Hotel Plymouth Harbor.

From now until April 15, the Radisson Hotel Plymouth, located at 180 Water Street in the heart of Plymouth Harbor, will open its doors 24 hours a day to accept donations of travel sized items at its front desk, to assist in the South Shore initiative to support our troops. This initial collection period will ensure that supplies can be apportioned and distributed to the troops as quickly as possible.

Think Travel-Sized!

Donors are reminded that troops on the move are in need of travel-sized supplies that can be easily stowed in a pocket or backpack. It is recommended that products be kept in the original manufacturer's wrap and/or box to facilitate quicker inspections and final delivery. Enclosing each item in a clear plastic zip-loc bag will also speed up the packing and shipping process. Please do not donate aerosol items or items packaged in glass.

Suggestions for toiletry items include: fragrance free baby wipes (for personal hygiene, showers are very rare!)toothpaste, toothbrushes, waterless soap, liquid body washes, shampoo, deodorant, bar soap, antibacterial soap, lotion, non-aerosol shaving cream, disposable razors, toilet paper (which is being repacked into travel sized packets), and travel-size packets of tissues.

Personal care items include: sunscreen, lip balm, eye drops (to relieve irritation from blowing sand), saline pray/drops for sensitive nasal passages, aspirin, throat lozenges, ointment or cream for athletes foot or jock itch, feminine hygiene products, cotton swabs, foot powder, moleskin pads, insect repellant, and small single-load packages of laundry soap. Pipe cleaners are also needed to clean weapons.

Individually packaged non-perishable snacks are also welcome, such as: gum, hard candy, packets of nuts, beef jerky (labeled USDA beef, pork and pork by-products are not allowed to be shipped to Middle East locations), or snack bars.

Additional supplies needed for down time include: paperback books (without racy or suggestive covers), crossword puzzle and word find books, batteries (AA, AAA, C, packaged in their original blister packs), nerf toys, playing cards, sunglasses, stationary, duct tape or electrical tape, disposable cameras, current CDs or DVDs, or pre-paid global calling cards.
