A Free Concert! One Last Drag!

THE SPICY RIZZAKS CELEBRATE THE LAST NIGHT OF SMOKING ********************************** Complimentary Show at Luna Lounge, 171 Ludlow Street, on March 29th at 9:30pm *********************************** ******************* The Spicy Rizzak Sandwich Becomes A Best-Seller

New York, NY, March 29th, 2003 -- Lower East Sides own The Spicy Rizzaks will commemorate the last night of smoking in New York City with a free concert at Luna Lounge on March 29th, on the eve of Mayor Bloombergs smoking ban on every public indoor space. Catering to fans of such rock legends as The Misfits, The Dead Kennedys, Eddie Cochran and The New York Dolls, the Rizzaks threaten to combine their signature cocktail of '77-era punk, doo-wop, psychobilly and blue-eyed soul for the show. Other local favorites The Beauty Supply, The Great Shakes and The Coastal Drag will join.

This is will not be the last show in New York where you can drag on a tasty Viceroy while air-guitaring to our indie-rock hit `Action Slacks," said bassist Bootsy Rizzak. We think weve found a loophole through privatized clubs."

A one-time Chinese herb warehouse, Luna Lounge is now a popular hangout for Lower East Siders and one of the first venues to play host to The Spicy Rizzaks and such break-outs as The Strokes, Kid Rock and Elliott Smith. Luna Lounge is located at 171 Ludlow Street between Houston and Stanton Streets (212-260-2323). Subway: F, V to Lower East Side--Second Avenue; J, M, Z to Delancey-Essex Streets.

The show comes on the heels of The Rizzaks current release, Actually, No... This Is It!" which captures the rollicking, gritty assault of their live performances. Songs on the debut E.P. include the psychobilly rocker Crack The Whip," an ode to a pair of pants, Action Slacks," and the doo-wop throwback, Mudflap Girl."

The bands neighborhood delicatessen, Tinys Giant Sandwich Shop on 127 Rivington, recently added a sandwich in their name. Dubbed The Spicy Rizzak," the menu describes it as succulent turkey, crispy bacon, tangy tomatoes, eye-tearing onions, crazy ch-ch-cheddar, scorching hot chipolte mayonnaise, jam-packed onto a man-sized hero." The sandwich has quickly become a best-seller as a strong, word-of-mouth buzz has spread throughout the Lower East Side.

About The Spicy Rizzaks

In 2001, a group of friends from Manhattans Lower East Side got together to publish a comic book anthology called Royal Flush". Sophomoric senses of humor and artistic merit were not the only shared qualities among the friends; their mutual appreciation for musicians such as The Ramones, The Beach Boys, Eddie Cochran, Sam & Dave, The Misfits, Huey Lewis, Dead Kennedys and the Sweet inspired them to collaborate further by forming an outlandishly original band -- The Spicy Rizzaks. They debuted at the Royal Flush book release part at CBGBs in May of 2001.

They had the audience in the palms of their hands ever since. The Rizzaks consist of four core members: guitar-god Eddie Van Rizzak, bass virtuoso Bootsy Rizzak, beatmaster Ringo Rizzak on drums and the dynamic and alluring Jon Bon Rizzak on vocals. The Rizzaks also sometimes perform with their top-shelf brass section, featuring Dizzy Rizzak on trumpet and Sonny Trombono Rizzak on trombone. Whether it be '77-era punk, blue-eyed soul or surf, The Spicy Rizzaks transition effortlessly, melding it all together with biting, satirical lyrics that can get even the heppest of hep-cats actually unfolding their arms and enjoying themselves in public.

In the past year, The Rizzaks have laid waste to such great New York City venues as CBGBs, Brownies, Luna Lounge, the Continental, the Luxx, North Sixth, Don Hills and Arlenes Grocery. The Rizzaks have also toured extensively, headlining shows in Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Boston and Baltimore. In the summer of 2002, The Rizzaks were asked to record music for the Off-Broadway production of David Rabes Hurlyburly." They recently contributed the track Santa Clause is Coming To Town" to The Night Before," a compilation of the hottest up & coming New York City bands covering classic Christmas tunes. The Rizzaks just rapped production on their music video for Crack The Whip" and the ever popular Action Slacks," which has been getting some serious airplay on college and alternative radio stations around the country.
