Kerio integrates Network Associates McAfee anti-virus software and adds content filtering to new corporate firewall.
Kerio Technologies new generation of its popular WinRoute firewall integrates Network Associates McAfee anti-virus technology to scan downloads and web pages.
Santa Clara, Calif., March 31, 2003 -- Kerio Technologies, a software company specializing in Internet security products for SOHO and corporate environments, announced today that it will integrate Network Associates (NYSE: NET) McAfee anti-virus software into version 5 of its flagship product, Kerio WinRoute Firewall. The product combines a stateful firewall with the McAfee anti-virus engine, along with content filtering, and Internet access management tools.
Since its initial release in 1997, WinRoute has grown from a NAT router for sharing a dialup connection into a robust network firewall, receiving praise and security certification, and replacing Checkpoint Firewall-1 in some corporate environments.
Kerio WinRoute Firewall 5 is a complete upgrade, designed to address new security concerns and better support emerging technologies.
Web browsing is proving to be a tremendous source of exposure to virus infection in corporate networks and for this reason, Kerio WinRoute firewall provides support for scanning HTTP and FTP traffic. Kerio WinRoute Firewall will integrate Network Associates McAfee anti-virus technology to scan web pages and files downloaded from Internet web and FTP servers. When the system detects that data might be infected, it either removes the harmful content or cuts off the communication, preventing systems behind the firewall from being exposed to viruses or malicious code.
Network Associates is pleased to extend our relationship with Kerio to protect its customers with integrated McAfee anti-virus technology at the firewall," said Todd Gebhart, vice president of managed services and OEM sales for McAfee Security at Network Associates. Integrating our leading virus scanning capabilities into their WinRoute Firewall is another example of our dedication to providing anti-virus protection to all users, regardless of their platform."
In a few short years we have seen the network security needs of small business change dramatically. Even very small companies today require more than just a simple firewall. By integrating Network Associates McAfee anti-virus technology into our WinRoute solution, we can provide enterprise-class Internet gateway scanning and still meet the budgetary and support requirements of small businesses," says Dusan Vitek, director of marketing for Kerio Technologies.
With a variety of tools for increasing employee productivity, Kerio WinRoute Firewall is well equipped to meet the needs of modern companies. The firewall is able to block pop-up windows, filter downloads based on file type, or prohibit Internet access to web pages with inappropriate or non-productive content. It can also provide secure passage for VPN tunnels and Internet telephony (VoIP) applications.
In larger networks, access rights policy can be fine-tuned for different groups of users. For example, selected employees can be banned from web browsing during business hours. In addition, users can be managed using Microsoft's Active Directory service in Windows 2000 Server.
