American Heroes and Heroines Were Kids Too!
Young Patriots Series Creator to speak at
Southern Kentucky Festival of Books on April 11
Florrie Binford Kichler, creator of the award-winning Young Patriots Series biographies for children, will be a featured speaker at the Southern Kentucky Festival of Books in Bowling Green, Kentucky on April 11. Appearing on "Children's Day" at the Festival, Ms. Kichler will discuss her rescue and re-release of a classic children's book series more than 50 years old.
Theres not one thing boys can do that I cant," declared the young Juliette Low, who grew up to found the 80-million-member strong Girl Scouts." None of my teachers ever tried to find out what Im meant to be," said the 11-year-old Lew Wallace, who grew up to be a Civil War General, statesman and author of the world-famous novel, Ben-Hur. Overcoming obstacles and never giving up on dreams are just two of the common threads that run through each book in the Young Patriots Series, stories of American heroes and heroines as children. All titles in the Series were originally published more than 50 years ago, and have been redesigned and reissued by Patria Press.
Kids are kids no matter what century they live in," remarks Young Patriots creator Florrie Binford Kichler, who will be speaking at the Southern Kentucky Festival of Books on Friday, April 11 at 10:30 am, and be available to sign books throughout the day on Saturday, April 12.
Whether its William Henry Harrison running away from his tutor in the 18th century, Juliette Low losing her temper in the 19th century or Amelia Earhart disobeying her grandmother in the 20th century, children in the 21st century will recognize themselves in each one of the Young Patriots Series heroes and heroines."
Celebrating the 100th year anniversary of flight is the just-released "Eddie Rickenbacker, Boy Pilot and Racer." Other titles currently in print include "Amelia Earhart, Young Air Pioneer," Volume 1; "William Henry Harrison, Young Tippecanoe," Volume 2; "Lew Wallace, Boy Writer," Volume 3; "Juliette Low, Girl Scout Founder," Volume 4; and "James Whitcomb Riley, Young Poet," Volume 5.
