Juan Pablo Cappello named one of the Leading Attorneys in the Americas
Juan Pablo Cappello, the CEO and founder of The Private Advising Group Law Firm, has been well known in cross-border transactions throughout Latin America and Spain for the past ten years, both in the media and financial services industries.
Juan Pablo Cappello's Private Advising Group Law Firm is a full-service, boutique corporate law firm located in Miami. It specializes in handling complex cross border transactions, mainly for Latin American clients. The Private Advising Group has a unique approach to the practice of law. It represents a roster of Latin American economic groups and individuals in their cross border transactions. It also focuses on financing transactions.
Juan Pablo, before founding the Private Advising Group, was the Executive Vice President, Corporate Secretary and General Counsel of Patagon, with retail brokerage and banking operations in Spain, Germany, Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, Chile, Argentina, Venezuela and the US. He helped to structure the sale to Santander Central Hispano of a controlling interest in Patagon for $525 million plus a $250 million capital increase.
While at Patagon Juan Pablo was responsible for all legal, government affairs, and compliance matters involving Patagons banking, brokerage and media operations in eight countries, with over 900 employees, US$3 billion in assets and a global annual budget of over US$150 million.
Prior to joining Patagon, Juan Pablo was General Counsel and Senior Vice President of Sky Latin America, an over $1 billion joint venture of News Corp, Televisa, Globo and Liberty Media.
Earlier in his career Juan Pablo was an associate at Cleary, Gottlieb, Steen and Hamiltion in New York where he worked on numerous M&A transactions, project financings and joint ventures throughout Latin America. He was the principal associate responsible for the IPOs and the ongoing SEC disclosure obligations of Latin issuers including Acindar, Banco OHiggins, Banco Santiago, Chilquinta, CTC, Distribución y Servicio (Almac), Elektra, Telemex and Unimarc. He was the primary associate responsible for negotiating syndicated loan agreements as large as US$500 million on behalf of international borrowers and lenders including Elektra, Banco de Credito e Inversiones, Citibank, Codelco-Chile, Banco Santander, and TV Azteca. He was the primary associate on the first and largest independent power project financing in Mexico, Samalayuca II ($650 million).
Juan Pablo began his career at Philippi, Yrarrazaval in Santiago, who is part of the Uria y Menendez Spain law network.
Juan Pablo received a J.D. degree from New York University Law School and an undergraduate degree from Duke University. He was an Articles Editor of the NYU Bar Review. He is a member of the Bar in New York and Florida.
