Rod Millen Special Vehicles honored for outstanding Small Business performance

Rod Millen Special Vehicles (RMSV) was one of only 16 small businesses to receive a Lockheed Martin 2002 Small Business of the Year award for outstanding and exemplary work by a small business.

HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif. -- Rod Millen Special Vehicles (RMSV) recently received a Lockheed Martin 2002 Small Business of the Year award for outstanding and exemplary work by a small business. RMSV was recognized for their ongoing efforts on two contracts for Lockheed Martin functioning as lead vehicle designer and integrator for the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) Unmanned Ground Combat Vehicle (UGCV) and the Office of Naval Research (ONR) Tactical Unmanned Ground Vehicle (TUGV). RMSV is also teamed with Lockheed Martin on several Army Future Combat Systems (FCS) unmanned vehicle proposals currently under review by the Government.

As a small business it is very rewarding to be recognized by a world-class corporation like Lockheed Martin," said Rod Millen, president of RMSV. This award reflects the dedication and expertise of our diverse engineering and manufacturing teams."

Lockheed Martin first took notice of the companys capabilities after RMSV completed work on several successful high mobility internally helo and VTOL aircraft transportable vehicles. These technology demonstrators were used by the Marine Corps to develop the operating requirements for the Internally Transportable Vehicle (ITV) and Light Strike Vehicle (LSV). These RMSV designed and built vehicles included:

-   Helo Transportable Multi-Mission Platform (HTMMP) -- a high mobility vehicle designed for airlift by the CH-46 Sea Knight medium lift assault helicopter.

-   Joint Tactical Electric Vehicle (JTEV) -- a small 4-wheel hybrid electric drive scout/reconnaissance vehicle intended for internal transport in the medium lift, multi-mission, tilt-rotor VTOL V-22 Osprey aircraft.

-   Helo Transportable Tactical Vehicle (HTTV) -- a family of fast light strike vehicles capable of speeds in excess of 95 mph with extreme off-road mobility and the capability to be airlifted into theater by the V-22 Osprey aircraft.

RMSVs first official project with Lockheed Martin was the Reconnaissance, Surveillance, and Targeting Vehicle (RST-V) for the Carderock Division of the Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) and DARPA in 1998. Also V-22 compatible, RST-V utilized a state-of-the-art four-wheel-drive hybrid-electric propulsion system intended to extend operating range, reduce acoustic and thermal emissions, and reduce diesel engine size required for peak acceleration and hill climbing. Since the RSTV program, RMSV has supported Lockheed Martin on a variety of manned and unmanned vehicle platforms.

Rod Millen Special Vehicles is a privately owned small business that currently qualifies as a non-traditional defense contractor. Incorporated in 1980, the Rod Millen family of companies has evolved from a high performance racing company into a diverse engineering, prototyping, and product development business with expertise in electromechanical systems for the entertainment and ground vehicle industries. Headquartered in Huntington Beach, California, the Rod Millen family of companies is principally engaged in the research, design, development, manufacture and integration of advanced technology solutions for manned and unmanned military vehicles, high performance concept cars, race vehicles, and rides for major theme parks.
