Employment Alternative: The Arts and Entertainment Industries

Nearly half a million workers have been laid off in the USA in the past 3 months. Gigslist.org, in San Francisco, is helping people all over the USA, and the World, find employment in the Arts and Entertainment Industries. Gigslist.org publishes paid arts jobs as well as libraries of other arts employment and networking sources to assist people, in real ways, in finding jobs and contacts in their chosen industry.

The arts and entertainment industries are a much larger employment source than most people realize; with a demographic of over 6.5 million registered arts workers in the USA alone, according to USA government statistics. The Arts is also a huge employment source for people who don?t psychologically or emotionally fit into a 9 to 5 corporate or industrial regime. Gigslist.org ran a 12-month survey to see how many places people knew about to look for work in the arts. The result was that most people knew only one or two; often gigslist.org was the only place they knew. With that information gigslist.org went into research mode and over 2 years compiled the largest and most comprehensive library of arts employment web sites and mailing lists on the planet.

?People don?t always know where to find a job in the arts or fellow arts workers to talk to; so I help them with jobs as well as a one of a kind library of arts employment and networking sources that includes web sites, mailing lists, and discussion groups. With over 2000 listings gigslist.org is a resource where you will find useful information for the USA, Canada, UK, Europe, Australia, and even Singapore, Japan, and China. I also write and publish articles on some of the correct ways for finding and applying for jobs in the arts.? Deborah Paulino, founder and author of gigslist.org

Gigslist.org also works in the field on San Francisco arts and music events and happenings such as How Weird Street Faire and Ascension for electronic music and arts, and has been invited onto the committee for the San Francisco Festival of the Arts for 2004. ?The Arts is my love and my main mission is to enable people to get their work out there. The only way to do this, in an ongoing way, is to make my business out of it.?

Although still a start-up gigslist.org has already been approached by prestigious arts industry publications from Australia and London asking how to break into the USA market. ?Gigslist.org content is saught after because it is useful not only for arts workers but also for business savvy entities looking to publish trade publications for; or market to the Arts and Entertainment industries in the USA and World Wide. There are mailing lists and discussion groups there totaling over 300 000 arts workers and businesses in the USA alone.? ###
