HELP JOHN FIND WORK AND WIN A FREE CRUISE
MBA student launches innovative Web-based contest offering a free cruise to jumpstart career search. The contestant that submits a job tip that leads to an offer he accepts, wins free Carinval cruise for two.
Sure, the job markets tough, but John Byrne, an MBA student at Clarkson University in Potsdam, NY hit on an innovative way to beat the competition offering a free cruise of $500 to the first person who comes up with a hot job lead not posted on a major job bank.
Byrne set up a web site at www.jobsforjohn.com on which he explains his giveaway and is seeking leads. The enterprising 21 year-old with a special yen for politics graduates this May and hopes to find a solid opportunity in the Northeast.
Most job openings are never advertised, so I put together this contest to help me get the inside scoop on jobs that aren't publicly posted," said Byrne. Networking is essential, and I hope that offering a free cruise will give people the incentive to tell me about unpublicized job openings.
Ive gotten a great response from recruiters so far," says Byrne. Most of the jobs were in financial sales, and Im still looking for something with more creative potential."
Byrnes not fussy about tackling a narrow career slot; hes willing to consider something challenging in these fields: advertising, economic development, entertainment, finance, government, human resources, law, marketing, media, project management, public relations, relationship management, and training.
The prize is a Carnival Cruise for two to the Bahamas or $500. To enter the contest, participants submit a job opening via the www.jobsforjohn.com Web site. If Byrne ends up taking the position, the person submitting the opportunity will win the prize. What better way to start off than by sending your boss away on vacation?" he said.
