ELMSFORD, New York -- April 7, 2003 - HYPRES, Inc., a Superconductor MicroElectronics (SME) company, announced today that it was awarded a contract by an agency of the Department of Defense for an estimated value of $1.3 million. Under this contract, HYPRES will develop a high-performance Digital Channelizer for multiband and multifunction receivers.
This new contract will continue the development of a family of HYPRES ultra-high performance Analog-to-Digital Converters (ADC) based on utilizing ultra-high speed and ultra-low power SME technology. This bandpass ADC on a single chip will directly convert the RF signals to digital baseband data with exceptionally high resolution and dynamic range. HYPRES digital and mixed-signal products are capable of processing high-speed input data with ultra-high linearity and quantum precision.
Jack Rosa, CEO of HYPRES, commented, Our technology brings the power of digital processing to the RF domain, which represents a change in the basic paradigm of wireless communications that will revolutionize the industry and the markets." He further commented, This contract represents another milestone in the goal of demonstrating the unparalleled capabilities of our technology."
The development of such a bandpass ADC chip is a critical enabling component in the implementation of true all-digital receivers suitable for communications, radar, and many other applications. Immediate benefits include the elimination of analog devices that limit overall system performance in present receiver architectures used in the military and commercial sectors. The early conversion to the digital domain results in a much more robust system for many applications and provides many unique benefits such as opportunities for dealing with the multitude of standards present in wireless communication systems.
