Coach a Child: Empower an Adult. Our task, Financial Literacy

How a 10 year old boy can be helped by reading a book. (Joint photo available)

Raised by a self-made millionaire, Suzanne Short, decided that she need to share the financial insights she received from her dad with a society bent on financial suicide.

In Wisdom Daddy Taught Me: A Path from Poverty to Prosperity, Ms. Short in a series of 93 vignettes narrates the childhood lessons she learn from her father on character, attitude, and money.

Her book was targeted at adults and teens but younger Americans are taking note.

Last week Alex Keffer, age 10, told his grandfather: "Well, in my book that Granny gave me, I read that you shouldn't worry so much about everything, because it makes you unhappy and depressed. So, I've been trying not to worry so much." This is from a child who at age 6 was medically diagnosed with anxiety.

Perhaps Alex will study the money lessons as well; and when he grows up, he won't have to worry about living paycheck to paycheck as the anxious older generations seem intent on doing.
