NEW SECURITY BACKBONE FOR THAI ZURICH
Thai Zurich Insurance (TZI), part of a global network spanning over 60 countries, have a staff of 400 located over several floors in a tower building in Bangkok. Their offices have been fitted with an access control system by Pointer Asia, an offshoot of UK security integrators Pointer Limited. This is based on technology supplied by Lenel Systems of the USA. The new system is engineered to meet current needs and will expand to cover more office space as the business grows. CCTV, intruder alarm, biometric recognition and other security technologies can be added as they are needed.
TZI and their subsidiaries currently occupy 18 storeys within a 28 floor tower. The initial installation takes in the eight floors occupied by TZI. It has provision to take in the 10 floors occupied by subsidiaries and also bring the regional branch office network into the system.
Phase one of the installation, completed by Pointer over six weeks with little disturbance, has 14 HID proximity card readers. These give access to each floor and, for authorised personnel only, to sensitive areas such as finance and computing. Cards and card readers are from Lenel's OnGurd Access System.
The card readers interface with the human resources department's time and attendance system to capture data on the start and finish of each persons working day. Staff are able to log into the system at any of the HID readers. This is a more flexible and adaptable system than the previous single point time-stamp system that suffered from peak time congestion. Door opening from inside is currently by request to exit switches, but the system can be upgraded to include proximity card operated exit to allow more comprehensive movement tracking.
