TODDLER JOINS FORCES WITH AMERICAN HEART ASSOCIATION.
Picture Book Star Comes Straight From The Heart.
"Little Doodle," the infant star of the inspirational picture book "Good Things To Share" will be featured in various AHA ad campaigns concerning good health.
Los Angeles: There's a new kid on the block, and the American Heart Association's got 'em! Created by author and illustrator J.T. Cummins, Little Doodle, the infant star of the inspirational picture book "Good Things To Share" will be featured in various AHA ad campaigns for Jump Rope for Heart, and Hoops For Heart, AHA's venerable children's physical activity and educational programs. JRFH and HFH reach approximately 5 million children a year, and have raised over $300 million dollars since 1978 for research against stroke and heart disease. "Little Doodle will reach millions of children from kindergarten through 5th grade through various campaigns," confirms Jeri Ramos, senior vice president of youth market, for AHA's Western States Affiliate. "One of which will be to use the character in an animated PSA for television and movie theaters. The spot is in preproduction now with a target airdate of September 2003."
A survivor of open heart surgery, Little Doodle's "Dad" benefited directly from the efforts of the American Heart Association, and couldn't be happier in championing their cause. "Prior to my operation to repair a damaged mitral valve," says Cummins. "The AHA website was invaluable in providing information that helped me understand what I was up against. For that I will always be grateful." In appreciation, Cummins and PopPix will donate a percentage of their proceeds from the licensing of Little Doodle to the American Heart Association.
"Because of the circumstances under which he was created, Little Doodle is especially meaningful to AHA," observes Richard Brophy, CEO of PopPix and the publisher of "Good Things To Share." "But, that's not the only reason AHA was drawn to him. Little Doodle projects a wholesomeness and innocence that is precious and rare. I've witnessed how people react when they see the character for the first time, and it is always with a smile. He's a charmer, and that gets people's attention - especially kids. That's why we believe Little Doodle will be an asset in delivering AHA's message to the youth market."
No strangers to charitable causes, Cummins and PopPix have also used Little Doodle and "Good Things To Share" as vehicles to raise funds for other worthy causes close to their hearts. Through book signings they have jointly contributed to LAC + USC Medical Center where Cummins had his surgeries, as well as several United Church of Christ churches. They are also proud book contributors to the Los Angeles Times "Reading By 9" program, helping children to read at grade level by age nine. "Giving is what "Good Things To Share" is all about, says Cummins. " I wouldn't be here today if it weren't for the contributions and talents of others who have helped me along the way. It's only right to give back if you can. In my own small way," Cummins says humbly. "I'm just trying to say "thank you."
