Fremont, California -- April 16th, 2003, Photonify Technologies has announced that its name will change to ViOptix Inc. effective immediately. The new name reflects both the companys clinical focus, which is to determine tissue oxygenation level and viability, and its breakthrough optical technology.
The companys innovation, the ODISsey Tissue Oximeter, makes it possible for the first time to assess real time local tissue oxygenation and hemoglobin information non-invasively and cost-effectively. Oxygen and hemoglobin are key parameters in many clinical areas such as tissue viability, revascularization, cancer management, circulatory exploration and muscle assessment. The use of the Tissue Oximeter will introduce a new standard of care in disease states affecting local tissue oxygenation, leading to better disease outcomes and decreasing medical costs through early detection and intervention.
About the Company.
ViOptix, a Venture Capital-backed company, has developed and patented a revolutionary new technology (Optical Diffusion Imaging and Spectroscopy or ODIS"), which enables non-invasive, direct, real-time measurement of local tissue oxygen saturation (StO2) and hemoglobin concentration (Hgb) on a very cost-effective basis. Potential markets for the ODISsey system are an aggregate $1.9 billion worldwide plus a $360 million annual market for disposables.
