Bursaries for Workshop Papers in 'Conflict and Faith'
Centre for Reconciliation and Peace announces bursary awards for post graduate students studying conflict transformation and faith values. London UK - opend to UK based students only.
St Ethelburga's Centre for Reconciliation and Peace is announcing
its first series of research bursaries. The bursaries are open to
post graduate students who wish to focus on the role faith values
play in the gestation, or resolution, of violent conflict.
The Director of this new Centre in the heart of the City financial
district, Roland Smith, in announcing the bursaries said. `There is
really no more appropriate time for us to increase our understanding
of the role faith leaders and communities can play in transforming
violent conflict. We want to stimulate this research because we
recognise that faith and deeply held religious values, even though
they can sometimes drive people to commit terrible acts of violence,
can also lead to inspiring efforts to transform and resolve
conflicts. We hope in some small way to encourage a more
energetic pursuit of conflict transformation by faith leaders and
their followers'.
10 bursaries of 500 will be awarded and will lead to a series of 10
workshops which will aim to:
· create a better understanding of the positive value faith
communities, and faith leaders, can bring to peace making
· examine the negative impact faith communities and
individuals can have in fomenting violent conflict or frustrating
the paths to peace.
· stimulate positive engagement of faith leaders and faith
communities in dialogues for peace
· consider the relationships between religion, politics and
national (or other) identity in the context of violent conflict.
Our hope is that these workshops will enable scholars working in
similar areas of research to meet, engage with each other's work and
develop understanding of a vital element in conflict transformation.
The workshops will also offer important opportunities for networking
and the cross fertilisations of ideas.
Applications for bursaries close on 28th April.
