An exciting new chapter in figure skating history will be written with the debut of Major League Figure Skating (MLFS)s first exhibition game. This historic event will be held at Incredible Ice, the official home of the Florida Panthers, in Coral Springs, Florida. The competition begins at 3:30 in the afternoon and admission is free.
The event, will feature some of the areas top figure skaters. During the two-hour event, two teams made up of five skaters each will compete head-to-head in the four events -- a jump event, spin event, footwork event, and a free skate event. Each team scores points based on their skaters final placement in each event. The team who scores the most points at the end of the competition wins.
The local figure skating community is excited about both the exhibition game and the prospects of further MLFS growth in the area. I think this is a very positive event and I hope we can help make it possible for this to catch on in other facilities," said Nancy Mariani, Skating Director at Incredible Ice.
A performance by Incredible Ices Ice Theater Group will be performed during the Intermission.
"Establishing Major League Figure Skating provides an opportunity for skaters that simply does not exist anywhere in the world today," commented Jon Rubin, the founder of Major League Figure Skating and a former United States Figure Skating Association (USFSA) Judge. Most young skaters stop competing and end their career in their mid-teens because unless they have the entire package, opportunities are very limited for a rewarding competitive career. Our philosophy is to enhance, strengthen and grow the sport of figure skating to provide for the opportunities that other sports such as hockey, baseball, basketball and football afford for their young players."
