Leapers introspective collection of oil paintings on display at Genuine Imitation in May represent the intuitive quest for self-awareness, an expression of detachment from memories of the past, which haunt the soul and inhibit growth. Human nature has left these figures in search of hope. No longer wishing to grieve on past mistakes, they emerge: sublime, transcendent."
The rhythm of unification runs through all living things. These living things are galaxies within themselves, but are acting within the great universe. There is a structural law, a cosmic principle by which perceptible form are sustained. This law governs the processes of transformation in all living things. It can be realized because it manifests itself through man in the same way as it does through a flower or a star. Through this transformation, we may discover our universal commonality." --Craig Leaper II
An organic landscape designer by trade, painter Craig Leaper II intimately understands his world. His daily communion with nature feeds his life and his art. Vibrant swirls of color reflect galaxies inside the human soul, the evolution of man within himself, the link between inner emotions and the universe as a whole.

Musical guests: Ainu and Roshi
Ainu (Carlo Pearson and Ted Laderas) is a band characterized by equal measures of live performance, experimentalism, and improvisation. Inspired by the robotic rhythms of electro, the two abuse and use their sampling drum machines in ways their creators never intended. Their latest EP, F-plus, is an appealing melange of house beats and dubby beats reconstructed into something little green men might dance to in their space discos. They are also featured on the compilation Toast and Jam Nine.
In contrast, the solo work of Roshi (Ted Laderas) tends to the more introspective and melodic, created by painstaking programming of his laptop. His debut album, Everywhere is Nowhere Special, contains songs that function as tiny, self contained universes. Tracks that run the gamut from warm hiphop pieces to cold robotic electro invite you into their tiny, lushly orchestrated worlds.

June 2003:
Artist: Alicia J. Rose aka Miss Murgatroid "Hysteria: Bitches In Bloom"
Accordionatrix cum photo surrealist Alicia J. Rose (aka Miss Murgatroid) presents her debut public showing at Genuine Imitation Gallery. Over the past 10 years, Rose has been making her mark discreetly as a medium format portraiteer for rock groups and eccentric humanoids. Hysteria: Bitches In Bloom is a portrait study of women immersed in the various degrees of hysteria - as it was diagnosed in the earlier part of the 20th century. What was once considered a disease is now embraced behavior in modern society - or is it? Rose combines her bizarre visual sense with rich color and the exploding personality of her subjects to reveal a vibrant view of the beauty and conflict of the female mind and body.
