"Tony Blair for President" Campaign Launched, Interviewed on BBC Radio
A grassroots campaign has been launched to draft British Prime Minister Tony Blair to run in the 2004 U.S. presidential election.
Los Angeles, CA - April 22, 2003 - A grassroots campaign has been launched to draft British Prime Minister Tony Blair to run in the 2004 U.S. presidential election.
Jim Bursch has created a Web site (http://blair2004.com) featuring a petition inviting Blair to run against George W. Bush in 2004. Bumper stickers, coffee mugs, and t-shirts emblazoned with "Tony Blair for President" are also featured on the Web site.
The Web site caught the attention of the BBC radio, and interviewed Bursch during the late-night talk show "Up All Night" on April 18th.
When asked if this is a serious campaign, Bursch said, "If it weren't for the citizenship problem, this would be a serious campaign, but since Mr. Blair is barred from taking office because he was not born in the United States, this is a parody. Nonetheless, there is a serious message behind this campaign. This campaign is an expression of suppport for the aims of Operation Iraqi Freedom as articulated by Mr. Blair, and the policies and principles that Tony Blair symbolizes in the United States."
Since it's April 16 launch, the petition has received 45 signatures.
