Planning for the Transition from the Locker Room to the Boardroom

PBFN Business Development Conference draws professional athletes to San Diego

Professional Business and Financial Network (PBFN), an organization exclusively for professional athletes focused on business building, professional development and peer networking opportunities, will hold its second annual Business Development Conference Friday, May 16 -- Sunday, May 18 in San Diego. Seasoned business owners and entrepreneurs both from within and outside professional athletics will lead hands-on workshops, keynotes and panel discussions, drawing current and former professional athletes from across the country to focus on life beyond the game.

The conference will provide firsthand accounts of the successes and the challenges of the transition from the locker room to the boardroom. Some of this years topics include: Security issues and identity theft; decision-making for business start-ups or franchising; as well as networking and building business relationships. Keynote speakers and presenters include: NFL Hall of Famer, Kellen Winslow; motivational speaker, Les Brown; Philadelphia Eagle, Troy Vincent; former Cincinnati Bengal, Jim Corbett; and business etiquette expert, Barbara Hoffman.

PBFN founder, Ryan McNeil, formed the organization to allow athletes to network with other athletes, promote their own companies, develop business skills and get exclusive insight from the strategic business partners aligned with PBFN. Members have access to resources customized exclusively to their interests.

McNeil, currently with the San Diego Chargers, has been playing professionally for more than a decade. His tenure in the NFL is a vast departure from the three and a half years of the average NFL player. However, since he was first drafted he has considered himself a retired athlete in training" and is hoping to pass this theory along to his colleagues; offering them the tools to put theory into action at the upcoming conference.

The concept is to provide customized resources and networking information to current and former pro athletes, of either gender, in any sport, to help and direct them after they retire, to just have options available to make sounder decisions," states McNeil. PBFN Business Development Conference is the ideal forum for athletes to grow their network and start or continue down the path toward professional business success."
