Hush Magazine Offers New Erotic Outlet for Women
Los Angeles, CA -- The heat is building around Hush, a new L.A.-based erotic magazine that some are calling the female answer to Maxim.
Women are just as sexual as men, but the publishing industry has never bothered to notice," says Mary Kay Holmes, Hushs creator and editor in chief. The double standards are infuriating; mens magazines feature photos of beautiful women, and womens magazines -- more photos of beautiful women. Even the magazines that are supposed to cater to a womans more prurient interests seem suspiciously geared toward gay men -- they have the same kind of crass layout and content as any low-brow porn mag."
And so, banding together support from like-minded friends in the entertainment community, Holmes launched Hush Magazine on the Internet in January 2003 (www.hushmagonline.com). The magazine focuses on the sensual side of the modern intellectual woman, featuring artsy photos of beautiful men, female-centered erotic fiction as well as humorous lifestyle and entertainment pieces.
After a woman passes a certain age, shes expected to put all of those 'boy-crazy years behind her. Our mission with Hush is to bring that sense of fun back to a womans life," says Holmes. We use big words like 'empowering women around the office, but our real mission isnt that much different than your standard mens magazine: 'Heres a hot guy. Heres a cool place to go. Heres something that might make your sex life better."
We dont do quizzes, though," Holmes cautions. If you want quizzes, youll have to go elsewhere."
So far, response to Hush has been overwhelming, with the Web site receiving over 200,000 hits in the first two weeks alone. Holmes hopes that the heat manifests itself soon in a deal with a publisher -- she ambitiously plans to have Hush on newsstands all over the country by 2004.
You cant take the computer into the bath with you after a long day of work -- thats just dangerous," jokes Holmes. We need to get Hush into the hands of our readers, and soon."
