Short Film on Irish Hunger Striker wins Bronze Telly Award

Harrison Cheung's short film - 'Rising of the Moon' - about Irish Hunger Striker, Bobby Sands - wins Bronze Telly Award. Starring Sean Conant (Moonlight Mile) and David Bale (father of actor Christian Bale and husband to Gloria Steinem)

Producer and author Harrison Cheung has just won a Bronze Telly Award in the Biography category for his short film Rising of the Moon which is about IRA hunger striker Bobby Sands.

Bobby Sands, an Irish MP, author and poet, was just 27 years old when he led a hunger strike to protest his imprisonment, during which he was elected as MP for the constituency of Fermanagh and South Tyrone. He died after 66 days on hunger strike on May 5th, 1981.

Directed by Deborah Baxtrom (the award-winning director of Ethel's Sofa), Rising of the Moon stars Sean Conant as Bobby Sands and David Bale as the British prison guard. Conant was last seen in the Touchstone picture, Moonlight Mile. David Bale is the father of actor, Christian Bale, and husband to feminist/activist, Gloria Steinem. Shot on digital, the screenplay was written by Sean Conant.

Cheung and Conant chose to make a film about Bobby Sands as a very personal study about defiance against injustice. Said Cheung, "We both came from backgrounds and experiences which made Bobby Sands' story particularly inspirational."
