Announcing a new website addressing the Future of Women's Leadership
Women Knowing Leadership is an inquiry project born of the realization that not enough emphasis has been placed on womens successes in leadership roles. A basic assumption of this project is that where we focus our attention, we spend our energy. Thus, a key purpose of the project is to elevate the dialog regarding our strengths, talents, wisdom, energy, and passions around leadership. In so doing, we provide a foundation to build upon our successes and to design our future.
Over the last 12 months we have interviewed 60 women. Their ages have ranged from 19 to 65, and have included African-American, Hispanic, Asian, and White women. Interviewees have represented the manufacturing, banking, consulting, education, health care, social services, financial and technology fields. They have been moms, students, professors, religious professionals, entrepreneurs, retirees, activists, consultants, not-for-profit directors, and corporate vice presidents. The focus of the interviews has been on appreciative questions, for example:
"Without being humble, what do you value most about yourself as a leader in your work, your organization, or your community?"
"Imagine that women hold leadership in all arenas, all over the world, in ways that reflect our numbers and what we have to contribute. What does our leadership look like? What does the world look like?"
