KUA's Safety Education Honored with 3 Awards

Florida's sixth largest community-owned electric utility recognized by the Florida Public Relations Association.

   KISSIMMEE, Fla., April 25, 9:00 am -- Kissimmee Utility Authority's ongoing commitment to electrical safety education earned the utility three awards in Thursday evening's 2003 Image Awards, an annual competition sponsored by the Orlando Area Chapter of the Florida Public Relations Association.
   The Image Awards competition is conducted to recognize outstanding public relations programs and to encourage and promote the development of excellence in internal and external communications.
   KUA was awarded the Grand Image Award -- the highest award presented -- as well as an Image Award and a Judges' Award for its 2003 Calendar of Electrical Safety.
   Every year in the United States, tens of thousands of people are killed or injured from contact with electricity. In fact, one person is electrocuted in the home every 25 hours, according to the latest data available from the Consumer Product Safety Commission. Many of these accidents involve children. Research shows that these tragedies can be avoided by providing children and adults with proper safety rules to follow in the home and workplace. KUA's calendar features artwork from twelve Osceola County students that reinforces key safety messages and warns of the danger of contact with electricity. The calendar was distributed free of charge to teachers, students and to utility customers in January.
   A Grand Image Award is the best in an overall division, Image Awards are the highest level of awards in each category, and Judges' Awards recognize projects that receive maximum results using a minimum budget.
   KUA has earned 136 local, state, national and international communication awards for public relations programs, special events, community relations and publications since 1995.
   Founded in 1901, KUA is Florida's 6th largest community-owned utility serving 58,000 electric, water and internet customers in five Central Florida counties.
