Top-10 Equipment Manufacturers in the World in 2002
Nokia was the number one manufacturer, with revenues of $21bn, i.e. over 50% more than the number two, Siemens.
Stuttgart, Germany -- 28th April 2003 -- In 2002, Nokia was the number one manufacturer, with revenues of $21bn, i.e. over 50% more than the number two, Siemens. Nokia owes its status to continued share gains in mobile infrastructure and even more significantly in mobile handsets. Performing quite well in most business segments Siemens gained the second spot in 2002 and Ericsson consequently dropped to third position, followed by Motorola. Motorola, Ericsson and Siemens had revenues between $12bn and $14bn. Alcatel, NEC, Nortel and Lucent then follow with revenues between $7bn and $10bn. All these manufacturers suffered from the decline in operators capex, particularly with regards to public switching, line transmission and cables. Particularly thanks to its success in mobile terminals Samsung ranked ninth and with $6bn revenues was already significantly below Lucent, but nonetheless much higher than the number ten, Fujitsu, with revenues below the $4bn mark. There are four European manufacturers in the Top-10, including the first three, against three American, two Japanese and one Korean.
