Des Moines Washington to benefit area youth sports
Former and current members of Seattle Seahawks, Seattle Sonics, WNBA Seattle Storm and Oakland Raiders will attend the 1st Annual Sports Night in Des Moines to benefit The Des Moines Legacy Foundation and Dollars For Scholars
The rivalry between the Seattle Seahawks and Oakland Raiders is coming to the new Des Moines activity center on May 3rd. The Des Moines Legacy Foundation in conjunction with the Des Moines Rotary Club's Dollars For Scholars are hosting the 1st Annual Sports Night in Des Moines. Former Oakland Raider Curt Marsh and several current and past Seattle Seahawks will attend the event and share stories and thoughts on youth sports programs. Marsh, the evenings featured speaker, will share lessons learned from his own struggles and victories which led to personal and team success in a variety of areas which include: NFL football player, businessman, government administrator, and youth advocate. Former Seattle Super Sonic Steve Scheffler will also present his thoughts on how youth sports programs made an impact on his athletic and professional ambitions. Former KOMO TV Sports Director Bruce King will emcee the 6 PM event.
"We're quite excited about having such an important event in Des Moines," says Bob Houston, Recreation Manager for the City Of Des Moines. "This gives our community an opportunity to help support programs that may very well help a young person learn the needed skills to pursue their goals and make good decisions about their lives."
The evenings silent and live auction items include autographed sports collectibles from Tiger Woods, Jeff Gordon, Shaquille O'Neal, Kobe Bryant and several others.
Each athlete will be available for autographs and pictures prior to the live auction and dinner. Limited tickets are $35.00 and available at the Des Moines Field House 1000 South 220th or 206-870-6527.
