Sensory Releases Voice Direct II Speech Recognition Kit

Easy To Use Kit Enables Fast, Low Cost Development Of Hands Free Voice Recognition Products

Santa Clara, CA (PRWEB) April 30, 2003 - Sensory, Inc., the world's leading supplier of speech recognition chips and software for consumer electronics, today released their new Voice Direct II Speech Recognition Kit, a low-cost kit and development tool designed to easily enable hands free speech recognition capability of consumer electronics. Voice Direct II can be used to voice-activate all types of ordinary consumer electronics like set top boxes, microwaves, cars, remote controls, garage door openers, alarm clocks, telephones, lights, internet appliances and many other types of electronic products.

Voice Direct II features continuous listening and recognition technology that allows almost any device to be controlled with just the sound of one or two key words or short phrase. "Sensory has sold thousands of Voice Direct Kits since the products release three years ago." says Todd Mozer, Sensory's President and CEO. "Our latest release improves performance while still maintaining a low price point."

Voice Direct II works by continuously listening for one key word or phrase (called the trigger word) to start the speech recognizer. It then listens for up to 3 seconds to recognize one of up to 15 additional words or phrases (called the command words) lasting up to 2.5 seconds each. When a command word is recognized, the Voice Direct II will raise one or two output pins high for one second, which can be used to control some peripheral electronic device. All the trigger and command words are speaker-dependent (user trained), so the recognition technology will work for any language. It can also be configured to have one, two or even three different continuous listening trigger words or phrases, each with up to five speaker-dependent command words.

The Voice Direct II is powered by Sensory's Voice Exteme speech recognition processor, which makes it an ideal choice for cost-sensitive consumer electronic products applications. Included is Sensory Speech 6.0e Technology, which offers better recognition accuracy, faster response times, and improved noise immunity.

The Voice Direct II comes complete with almost everything necessary to add speech recognition to common electronic devices and works in four easy to use pin configurable modes. The kit includes the detachable Voice Direct II module and companion motherboard, a microphone element, speaker, (4) microswitches, passive component selection to configure the module, and a quick setup guide. All one needs, besides the kit, is a soldering iron, solder, a 4.5 to 5.25V / 100 mA power source, multimeter, hookup wire, 0.1" headers, 3" x 3" prototyping board and some imagination.

The Voice Direct II retails for $49.95 and is available through several leading online electronics distributors (http://www.sensoryinc.com/html/sales/distributors.html).
