Saucy Monky sets out on Irish media tour to promote new album

Indie-pop act returns to Ireland May 5-May 13, 2003 for an extensive radio promotions, media and public appearance tour in support of their debut CD, Celebrity Trash"

LOS ANGELES, Calif. (PRWEB) April 30, 2003 -- Hot on the heels of their debut albums official Irish release and accompanying whistle-stop launch tour back in March, olivoiL recording artists Saucy Monky are setting their sights on returning to spend some quality time with their fans and the media in what promises to be an intimate and interactive 9-day 'Meet and Greet in early May.

In the few short weeks since Celebrity Trash hit the stands, the disc is already being described by critics as a mature-sounding first release -- sarcastic, sexy, and even a bit punky -- a true reflection of the four-member indie-pop outfit from Los Angeles, and in particular, its two songwriting front-women.

Co-lead vocalist and guitarist, Annmarie Cullen, was born and raised in Dublin, while her side-kick on lead vocals, guitar and keys, Cynthia Catania, grew up in the east-coast area of the United States. Together, they blend their pop/punk/rock influences and writing styles to create a sound reminiscent of The Pretenders, U2, The Breeders, The Vines and The Beatles.

Pushed out of the gate early to retail by highly receptive Irish radio, the band decided to launch the disc in March with performances to sold-out crowds in Dublin and Cork, and several visits to radio. With fast growing radio play in Ireland and the UK, at both national and regional major-market levels, the sudden frenzy surrounding this breaking band has prompted numerous media outlets to request time with the members of Saucy Monky, and a chance to sit down and talk about their music and their sudden success.

It is with this that olivoiL records is pleased to invite all members of the press and media in welcoming Annmarie and Cynthia back to Ireland.

As an integral kick-start of Saucy Monkys radio promo and media campaign, the girls will be spending considerable time in both Dublin and Cork from Monday, May 5 through Tuesday, May 13 to do extensive in-studio and in-store interviews and performances in both centres. As well, location interviews and photoshoots will be made available to members of the media, upon request. With the lads on bass and drums staying States-side this time around, Annmarie and Cynthia will cap off their stay with a very special intimate and unplugged acoustic performance at Whelans in Dublin on Tuesday May 13th, starting at 8:30pm. For many, this will be the first opportunity to see and hear the band perform songs from their new album live in-person.

Fans and critics, alike, have embraced Saucy Monkys distinctive meshing of Irish and American cultures, with the band already having become somewhat of a media darling.

When Today FMs Tom Dunne named Saucy Monky the first Witnness Rising Artist of 2003" on his popular Pet Sounds radio show, it prompted 83% of his listeners to vote the lead-off single Dont Wanna Know Your Name" as 'outstanding/excellent. As a result, the band is looking forward to receiving a slot at Witnness Festival this summer. While this single - or any single from the disc for that matter - has yet to be officially worked on Irish radio, another feather in the cap came to the Saucys when a remix of one of the album tracks became an instant-add Dublins Spin 103.8FM and shared the spotlight with the likes of Zwan, Coldplay, Lemon Jelly, and Junior Senior.

As a result of the buzz created by radio in Ireland, Saucy Monky was also invited to perform and chat on Irelands ID," a show for young adults on Network 2, Irelands #2 national television network. Following this appearance, producers from RTÉ 1 invited the band to appear on The Late Late Show", also tentatively scheduled for the May media tour. Hot Press, Irelands leading rock magazine, has already featured the band several times both on the web, and in print, and will be publishing a special multi-page fashion spread on the girls in May to coincide with their promotional tour.
