Forest Lawn Museum in Glendale Presents The Art of Setsu: Portraits and Panoramas" Beginning May 17th

One-woman art show portrays life experiences and the influence of artistic masters; exhibit complemented by wide variety of programs hosted by Forest Lawn Museum.

   GLENDALE, Calif., April 30, 2003 -- The Art of Setsu: Portraits and Panoramas," a distinctive exhibit that explores the Japanese-American culture and artist Setsus unique form opens Saturday, May 17, 2003 at the Forest Lawn Museum in Glendale. The exhibit represents the journey and the experiences one has on the path of life as well as experiences which touch the lives of Los Angelenos each in a unique and personal way.
   Forest Lawn is proud to bring the artwork of Setsu, a renowned Japanese-American artist to our community by hosting this extraordinary display of paintings," said Alison Bruesehoff, Forest Lawn Museum executive director. The impact of those in Setsus life as well as the influence of classic artists is seen throughout her dramatic portraits and panoramas."
   Setsu specializes in portraits capturing the story her subjects have to tell and reflecting on her experiences as a Japanese-American citizen. All of her paintings bring together the influence she has felt from her background to the paintings styles of Van Gogh and Renoir. Coupled with educational activities this exhibit creates an experience where people of all ages can learn about culture, history and art while enjoying the Forest Lawn Museum and the park-like grounds of Forest Lawn-Glendale. The exhibit will run daily from May 17th through August 3, 2003, from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

The Art of Setsu: Portraits and Panoramas" 2-2-2
   In addition to the exhibit, the Forest Lawn Museum will be conducting a series of complementary events which are open to the public at no charge.
o   June 21st -- Meet the Artist, Setsu: a unique opportunity to learn about the artist and walk through her artistic steps
o   June 22nd -- Artist Series: come and take an art class with celebrated community artists as they share their craft
o   June 26th - Screen and Sound: a film series devoted to art and its elements

   The Setsu exhibit is part of the Forest Lawn Museum Presents, ongoing events which are designed to bring diverse cultural and artistic experiences to Los Angeles through a wide range of exhibits on ethnicity, religion, and history.
