College kids react to catholic clergy sex scandal

College kids have definite views about the catholic clergy sex scandal. But the press doesn't have time to hear them. They only come to the campus if there is a gay or lesbian protest. So these kids chose music to express their feelings about how much the catholic sex scandal hurt.

Albertus Magnus is a small college in southern new England. What do the kids there know about anything, the war in Iraq, the clergy sex scandal, to mention one or two biggies.

But there are two brothers who attend the college and they have a conscience. They are especially vocal about the clergy sex scandal. They feel no one cares about how they feel, no one especially the press, want to feel their pain as they watch their idols topple off their pedestals

The catholics run their college. Patrick and Sean are just two of four siblings that sit in the quaint classrooms of this highly respected higher learning satellite. So they know about power- the engine that runs the Catholic Church. Not that they have run afoul of the power brokers. Its just that like many college kids today, they dont just want to speak out- they want to be heard. They are the future of the Catholic church and the tragedy is in all the hulabaloo about the scandal, no one bothered to ask them about their pain.

So they chose music to share their feelings about the power that can crush, beckon yet shut out the cries of sadness and the unanswered questions surrounding the scandal. Patrick and Sean OReilly believe that conscience is the antidote to
power gone awry. If the prelates and the predators had listened to their inner voice, the sex scandal would never have run amok through so many innocent lives over the past thirty years or more.

What do they hope to accomplish by their new cd, called CONSCIENCE? Well the name of their group should provide a clue. They call themselves THORN. A thorn surrounds the rose, it protects it, yet it keeps unfriendly hands off, lest the petals die.

THORN sings to prick the consciences not only of the high and mighty, but also of anyone who wants a better world. THORN has managed to make the message palatable through professional, skilled singing and music. Because the two brothers at Albertus Magnus want to get their concerns out there, they offer free downloads of their music at their website www.consciencemusic.com.
