UK mobile data services to increase by 75% between 2002 and 2004 to €4 billion

New research on the UK wireless market launched by Wireless World Forum (W2forum.com) shows that total revenue for data services will increase by 75% between 2002 and 2004 to €4 billion.

With growth in the mobile market reaching saturation and SMS usage reaching plateau and as of yet slow uptake of next generation devices the report investigates the state of the UK mobile market over the next 12-18 months.

Statistical highlights from the UK Wireless Handbook 2003 show:

• The number of mobile users in the UK will increase by 1 million between 2003 and 2004

• Mobile penetration rates in the UK will increase to 88.6% in 2004 where the market will reach saturation.

• The average number of SMS sent per user in 2002 was 0.92 messages per day; this will increase to 1.08 in 2004.

• The total number of prepay subscribers in the UK will decline from a 2002 peak of 35.5 million to 32.6 million in 2004.

• Data as a percentage of total ARPU will increase from an average of 12% in 2002 to in excess of 19% in 2004.

As well as providing an overview of the UK mobile market it drills down to each operator level to provide a competitive analysis and comparisons on mobile data revenues, total ARPU and churn by each operator.

Graham Brown, co-author and Executive Partner at W2Forum commented With so many companies in the UK and internationally wanting to sell their mobile services and products to the likes of Vodafone and Orange we recognised the need for in-depth analysis on the marketplace and specific information on each of the operators. The report we have launched gives them all the background and forecast information they need in one place in a clear and concise format at an affordable price."

Mobile operators included in the report: Vodafone, Orange, T-Mobile, O2, Virgin Mobile and 3.

The UK Wireless Handbook 2003 is 50 pages and available for purchase online at http://www.W2Forum.com/reports.php and costs 395 for a single user license.
