REGGAE & WORLD MUSIC STARS TO CONVERGE ON NEW YORK FOR MUSIC AWARDS

CHICAGO, IL -- May 1, 2003 -- The eagerly anticipated star studded 22nd International Reggae and World Music Awards, to be staged Friday, May 9, 2003, at the Manhattan Center/Hammerstein Ballroom, 311 W. 34th Street New York, NY.

CHICAGO, IL (PRWEB) May 4, 2003 -- The eagerly anticipated star studded 22nd International Reggae and World Music Awards, to be staged Friday, May 9, 2003, at the Manhattan Center/Hammerstein Ballroom, 311 W. 34th Street New York, NY for the first time will be graced by some of the reggae, and world music industrys most respected artistes.

The event, set to be the biggest yet in the organizations history, evident by the volume of media accreditation from the worlds largest medium outlets will be hosted by Tony Rebel, O.D. GT Taylor, Squeeze from Linkup Media and a WLIB radio personality to be announced.

Scheduled to attend and nominated in 7 categories is VP/Atlantic recording artist Sean Paul, currently number two in the Billboard Hot 100 Chart with Get Busy" from the Dutty Rock" album. Featured performers are; Luciano, T.O.K., Sanchez, Cedric Brooks, Marcia Griffiths, Warrior King, Dean Fraser, Tony Rebel, Half Pint, Frankie Paul, Mutabaruka, Soukous Star System Band, Richie Stephens, Conqueror, Mikey General, Tinga Stewart, and Malachi Smith, among others.

New York as never witnessed an event of this magnitude, the 22nd Annual International Reggae and World Music Awards (IRAWMA), will roll out the carpet for this years affair held in arguably the worlds music and financial capital. The city was the first choice for event organizer and founder Mr. Ephraim Martin, having considered Barbados, Bahamas, Cayman Islands, Ghana, and London to name a few.

The International Reggae and World Music Awards honor the best in reggae and world beat music yearly. In its twenty two year history, the IRAWMA have traveled to several cities; including: Chicago (where it was founded); Atlanta, Fort Lauderdale, Miami, New Orleans, with Montego Bay and Ocho Rios in Jamaica, for the last two Awards.

This year, awards will be given in thirty-eight reggae and world music categories; such as: The Bob Marley Award for Entertainer of the Year, Recording Artist of the Year, Best Album, Marcus Garvey Humanitarian, Best Calypso Entertainer, Best Gospel Oriented Song, Best Soukous Entertainer, Best Compas/Racine Entertainer, Best Music Video and Best Male and Female Vocalist.
