RFTrax Announces RFID Solutions for Securing and Monitoring Container Inventory
RFTrax announces RFID solution for securing, monitoring, and managing container inventory using Radio Frequency Identification technology.
U.S. Customs has introduced a number of initiatives in an effort to secure the 6 million plus containers entering the U.S. each year, two of which are the 24-hour rule and C-TPAT (Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism). Companies are searching for ways to comply with these initiatives and at the same time receive security and monitoring efficiencies that will enable them to reduce operational costs. With the introduction of Operation Safe Commerce, the government and the private sector are asking the question: With over 6 million containers arriving at U.S. ports every year, how do we monitor their contents and ensure security without increasing costs and significantly slowing down the supply chain?"
Using a combination of commercially available Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) components and customized software and hardware, RFTrax delivers a superior answer for inventorying and monitoring a shipping container and its contents, from the moment it is closed for shipment to the moment it is received at destination.
Reusable RFTrax electronic seals contain security, environmental, and trauma sensors, storage memory, data logging, and communications capabilities. By placing RFTrax electronic seals inside the shipping container, the sensors monitor and record if and when the crate was opened during shipment, or environmental conditions inside the container. This information can be read from an appropriately equipped handheld or laptop computer, via a mobile or fixed RFID reading station, at distances of up to 300 feet (100 meters) without the need to open the shipping container.
Additionally, the RFTrax application provides a means to share the information about the shipment and its contents (i.e. Shipper and Receiver Contact Information, Container Declared Contents, Bills of Lading, etc.) to other partners in the transaction through leading-edge industry-standard Web Services technology. RFID tags provide the communications and baseline interface to RFTrax SCAT tag.
