Avocent Introduces New DSR800 KVM OVER IP Switch to Provide Local and Remote Control for Small and Midsize Businesses

Avocent's DS Series continues to set standard in KVM switching

Las Vegas, NV (PRWEB) May 4, 2003 -- Avocent Corporation (NASDAQ: AVCT), today announced it will demonstrate a new KVM OVER IP switching solution at NetWorld+Interop, April 29 - May 1. The DSR800 is designed to bring the benefits of IP connectivity to smaller installations with distributed locations.

The cost-effective 8-port KVM switching system supports all major server platforms and provides local and remote access to a wide variety of servers or serial devices using standard IP connections. It contains one local port for access at the rack and one digital port for IP access.

Each DSR800 switch is managed with Avocents centralized DS management software for secure 'point-and-click access to any connected server or serial device. DSView provides anywhere, anytime access and is available in either a browser or client-based version. This unique management software has the capability to manage administrative rights, permissions and auditing for each IP address.

The DSR800 system will enable businesses to easily integrate access and control of distributed locations that may have only a few servers or serial devices. Instead of traveling to a location to fix a problem, IT administrators can use DS management software to take complete control of any device, from any location.

We have continued to develop our DS software and unique KVM OVER IP solutions to meet the needs of those businesses who may only need to control a few servers in remote office locations," said Gary Johnson, senior vice president of worldwide sales and marketing. Our DS Series KVM OVER IP systems provide unparalleled centralized administration of connected servers or serial devices, from any location. No other KVM switching system can provide this much flexibility and supports both serial and KVM connections over standard IP connections."

The DSR800 is the latest switching system in Avocents field-proven, award-winning DS Series of KVM switches. All are 1U DSR appliances designed for rack environments where space is at a premium and 24/7 server control is a necessity. When connected with Avocents DSRIQ module, each appliance significantly reduces cable clutter in the back of the rack with its efficient CAT 5 cable design.

The DSR800 is scheduled to ship in June with an estimated MSRP of approximately $1,750 in the U.S. Additional pricing and product details are available on www.avocent.com. Avocent will demonstrate DSR800 at April 29 -- May 1 at NetWorld+Interop, booth 5067.
