Ethel M® was founded by Americas premier chocolatier, Forrest Mars Sr., (M&M/Mars confections), who retired to Las Vegas, Nevada in 1976. While he loved the desert lifestyle he loved chocolate making more and by 1981 the Ethel M® Chocolate kitchen was on display and the first Ethel M® chocolate collections were for sale. Ethel Mars, Forrests' mother, would make the fine chocolates he loved and was the inspiration behind these fine gourmet chocolates. It was her dedication to quality, taste and artistry that impressed Forrest as a young boy. It was in 1911 when Frank and Ethel Mars started making and selling chocolates from their kitchen in Tacoma, Washington, the start of the M&M/Mars empire.
