NOT A BED OF ROSES

Author offers harrowing true story of her life of abuse

CHILLIWACK, British Columbia (PRWEB) -- Where does a 22-year-old woman go after beatings leave her alone and afraid? Does she seek out abuse counseling or a womens shelter? There was no help for women in the early 1970s, author Tara Holt writes. Almost four decades ago, Holt awoke from a living nightmare. Bruised and swollen from a domestic dispute with her husband, Holt, the mother of two small children, found herself alone, with no one to trust or turn to after her harrowing ordeal. Today, she has found inner strength and healing in writing her newly released book, From a Bed of Thorns to Satin Sheets (now available through 1stBooks Library).

Holt was beaten once with the heel of her own shoe while she slept. Repeated blows to the head have left scars and lead to memory loss. She was once beaten so severely, she fell into a coma for several days. I left my body and argued with God to let me stay, but I was told I had to return... it wasnt my time... I had two small babies that needed me," Holt writes.

When an investigation ensued, it was botched. When the case went to trial, Holt was given no time to recover or to remember the facts. When I came to, I did not recognize my surroundings or myself... I tried to think, but nothing came to mind," she states. Holt never received help from the government or follow-ups on her health. The only time the government did get involved was to take my two babies and place them in foster care," Holt adds. It was a parents worst nightmare.

The years following the vexing events of her young life were spent healing, finding answers and praying. The book tells of Holts fear and confusion, how she felt her home was haunted and her struggle to learn to walk and talk all over again. Through sheer determination and will power, a lot of prayers and faith," Holt survived. I had to do it on my own."

Holt currently resides in Canada. She has now become permanently disabled, suffering from degenerative disk disease and fibromyalgia. Though she keeps a good sense of humor, she finds she cant get out and do the things she used to enjoy. After years of keeping a computer diary, the author took an Internet course on how to write a book and created From a Bed of Thorns to Satin Sheets, her first published book.
