ARTIST RECEPTION COMBINES ROLLS ROYCE, FERRARI, OPUS ONE WINE AND GODIVA CHOCOLATE TO BENEFIT MAKE A WISH FOUNDATION AND ST. JOHNS RIVER.
ART RECEPTION, WINE TASTING, GODIVA CHOCOLATE TASTING AND EXOTIC CAR DISPLAY TO RAISE MONEY FOR THE MAKE A WISH FOUNDATION OF CENTRAL AND NORTHERN FLORIDA AND THE AMERICAN HERITAGE RIVER INITIATIVE.
CELEBRATION, FL (PRWEB) May 5, 2003 - An artist reception which has evolved as the result of an expedition on the St. Johns River has yielded a series of oil paintings entitled the American Heritage River Series. The second stop of the statewide tour of the collection is set to take place at the CELEBRATION HOTEL in Celebration, Florida on Thursday, June 5th from 6:30-9:30pm. The project which benefits the Make A Wish Foundation of Central & Northern Florida and the American Heritage River Initiative will include a display of Rolls Royce and Ferrari automobiles, wine tasting, hors d oeuvres, river painting exhibit and Godiva Chocolate tasting.
The first leg of the journey covered 125 miles of river and began in Deland at the Holly Bluff Marina. Once on the river, artist Keith Martin Johns and his wife Linda navigated the waterways searching for the inspirational locations that would eventually become images on canvas. The trip lasted 10 days with Johns using a houseboat to navigate the more accessible areas of the river and a canoe to reach the remote back water" regions. A third generation Florida artist, Johns has painted natures capes" for the past 25 years. According to Johns, "I was trying to accomplish a body of work that would act as an everlasting tribute to the St. Johns River".
The event will take place at the boutique, Celebration Hotel located in the community of Celebration. Overlooking a lake, this upscale facility has architectural and interior design elements reminiscent of the Grand Old South". Guests refer to the hotel as a place of timeless luxury with all of your indulgences being personally cared for. As guests arrive, they will be greeted with a gift of Godiva Chocolates and a display of Rolls Royce, Bentley, Ferrari and Maserati vehicles. Once inside, a wine tasting will be underway with a spotlight on a highly sought after wine, OPUS ONE. In addition, GODIVA will present a tasting of fine confections. Hors d Oeuvers such as Jumbo shrimp, bacon wrapped sea scallops and others will be served throughout the evening. It all takes place in the same room which contains oil paintings from the recent river expedition and other Florida locations.
Beneficiaries include the Make A Wish foundation of Central Florida and the American Heritage River Initiative. A special selection of Opus One wine, Godiva Chocolate and framed art from the expedition will be auctioned off with 100% of the funds going directly to the Make A Wish Foundation. In addition, two special limited edition giclees were created special for each organization. A portion of sales proceeds from the pieces entitled Otter Run and Bent Low" will go to benefit both the Make A Wish Foundation and the American Heritage River Initiative. When asked why the St. Johns River was chosen as the setting for this project, event founder Joe Sabatini, had this to say We were searching for a location that would convey our message of preservation and conservation as well as appeal to a vast majority of people...with such a historic influence on Florida commerce and as a source of natural beauty the St. Johns River was a perfect choice..." River painting collector, Peter Cohen of Ultimate Motorworks was quoted as saying..."As someone who has spent a great deal of time on the St. Johns River, I felt it was important to show my support for this wonderful cause."
